Astley & Tyldesley hosted Round 1 of the Manchester League Grand Prix series at Gin Pit on Wednesday evening. The track was watered beforehand and afforded some good racing, particularly amongst the u-13s, before drying out as the meeting progressed. In the u-10s match, A&T's Emily Burgess raced to her first ever maximum score, twice beating team mate Joe Quarmby, with some determined riding. The U-13s match saw some excellent racing between A&T's Max Evans and Bury duo Adam Turnbull and Tom Whitwam. There was plenty of action and passing, as the three lads finished on 14 points apiece. The U-16s and U-19s combined to race in one match, with Stockport's Jake Read racing unbeaten and points adjusted for the other riders. Astley & Tyldesley took the team win in the Division 2 (juniors) match. The racing was hard fought in the Senior match, with no shortage of incidents Several riders struggled to master the dry conditions, but Sheffield's Adam Watson mastered the conditions with some excellent passing. Jake Read again top scored in the match, losing only to Bury's Ben Scranage in heat 5. Stockport picked up a good score in the team competition, to begin their title defence with a win.
