Astley & Tyldesley made the short trip to Bury for a Northern League
fixture on Sunday. Both sides had riders missing for the Division 1
match, ridden on a dry track in glorious sunshine. Bury were quick out
of the traps and opened up an 8 points lead after just 3 heats. Two
shared races steadied things for A&T, but Bury extended their lead and
went into the interval break with a commanding 54-36 lead. Things went
from bad to worse for A&T after captain Joe Allen was harshly excluded
in heat 12 after James Elston fell, when the two riders made slight
contact entering the pits bend. Allen was subsequently match banned by
the referee for dissent, with 4 points deducted from the rider and team
scores. Despite A&T claiming inside grids from heat 8 onwards, the team
failed to post a heat advantage, as Bury avenged their defeat at Gin Pit
on the opening day of the season, by winning 108-66.

control, winning four of the next five races to hold a ten points lead
at the interval, 45-35. This was extended to a 15 points lead after heat
11, before A&T eased off in the closing stages, allowing the home team
to record two 7-3 heat wins. A&T deservedly took the win 79-70. Reece
Pollitt lost only to Dawid Renc in heat 2, whilst Adam Phillips was
unbeaten up to the last race, before finishing behind Danny Taylor and
James Elston. A good solid team performance by A&T.

Bury fielded 10 riders against A&T's 6 in the Division 3 match. Despite
some great riding by A&T, the riders were unable to overcome the
handicap in numbers. Max Evans lost only to Adam Turnbull in heat 14.
Credit to 7 years old John White who took a heavy fall first time out,
but bravely completed the match.
