A&T's youngsters travelled to Hull on Saturday to compete in the u-10 British Club Championships. Seven teams entered the event, with A&T drawn in the 2nd semi-final, which had only three teams, but the opponents were last year's winners and runners-up, Kesgrave and Ipswich! Kesgrave took control of the match, winning the first five races, but A&T always had the upper hand over Ipswich and stretched the margin over them to 9 points at the end, to qualify for the final. All five A&T riders made a strong contribution. U-10 British Club Championship, 2nd Semi-Final result: Kesgrave 59 Astley & Tyldesley 47 Ipswich 38. Kesgrave: Oliver Reynolds 14, Callum Brown 12, Oliver Wright 12, Tom Skinner 11, Hansen Ingram 10. A&T: Joe Quarmby 12, Emily Burgess 12, John White 11, Ben Dickinson 9, Charlie Burgess 3. Ipswich: Keaton Ripper 11, Isabelle Farrell 10, Kristian Mitchell 9, Kai Gowers 6, Liam Farrell 2. Referee - Darren Kent (Heckmondwike). A&T made a slow start in the final, winning only one of their four grid 1's, through Ben Dickinson in heat 3. After the first round of races, Kesgrave were already clear on 15 points, with A&T and Sheffield level on 10 apiece and Leicester trailing on 5. Sheffield pulled four points clear of A&T, but a storming gate from Emily Burgess off gate 4 in heat 8 saw her take the win and put A&T just one point adrift of Sheffield at the half way stage. Interval scores: Kesgrave 28 Sheffield 21 A&T 20 Leicester 10. Kesgrave were off and away for the win, but A&T had edged ahead of Sheffield for 2nd place. After heat 12 the scores were: Kesgrave 43 A&T 30 Sheffield 29 Leicester 17. Back came Sheffield in the next race to level the scores with A&T. The Team Green riders finished strongly, as Ben Dickinson took his second win of the match in heat 14, to secure 2nd place in the Final, finishing four points ahead of Sheffield. This was a great team performance by all five A&T riders, who did brilliantly for the club, to take 2nd place in this championship for the second time in three years.
