Sun 20th Sept Northern Grand Prix and Northern Fours Round 6 Bury

It was cycle speedway's derby day at a warm and sunny Goshen, as Bury met Astley & Tyldesley in a key Northern League fixture on Sunday.

In the Division 1 match, Bury took the lead with a 6-4 heat win in the opening race and were never headed after that. Bury pulled away throughout the match to win convincingly 105-73, with A&T's only consolation being a 7-2 heat win to Mulvey/Zareba over Scranage in the last race. Damian Zareba returned to the A&T side and he was in great form, losing only to Bury's Chris Parish in heat 7. Veterans Mark Mulvey and Paul Graham provided good back up for A&T. Parish rode unbeaten for the home team.

There was a record turn out of 35 riders for the Division 3 match for u-13 riders (19 for Bury, 16 for A&T). A win for A&T would have clinched the league title, but Bury made it a hat trick of wins on the day, beating A&T 206-148. Max Evans raced unbeaten for A&T, with Emily Burgess losing only once and battling bravely after taking a heavy fall, when being dumped into the fence by an opponent. Adam Taylor and Kaysar Mohammedi raced unbeaten for Bury. A&T fielded several new riders and they all enjoyed the experience of competing in a match.
