Wed 3rd July Manchester League GP Round 5 Bury

Bury hosted Round 5 of the Manchester League series at Goshen on a sunny Wednesday evening. The track was very dry and dusty throughout the evening's racing.

Astley & Tyldesley won the Division 2 match for the fifth match running, to clinch the league title for the sixth successive year. A&T's Aiden Green, Tom Morrissey and Emily Burgess all raced unbeaten in the u-10, u-13 and Women's categories respectively. There were no entries in the u-16 and u-19 categories.

In the Grands Prix series, two titles were clinched despite one round still remaining. Congratulations to Aiden Green on winning the u-10 series and to Emily Burgess on winning the inaugural Women's series. Tom Morrissey needs to score just one point from the final u-13 round to clinch that series.

The inclusion of four Bury riders meant that the Division 1 match was the most competitive one of the series. A&T led after the first round of races, but Bury moved into the lead at the halfway stage and held the lead going into the last round of races, with the scores at Bury 32 A&T 30 Stockport 27. Louis Wright won heat 10 for Stockport, from three A&T riders, followed by Reece Pollitt winning from three Bury riders, to put A&T two points ahead of Bury going into the last race. Ben Higham, Kris Ramsden and Jake Read clashed at the first bend. Steve Harris used all his class and experience to execute the perfect drop from grid 4, to pull away and take a vital race win. This was Read's only defeat of the night, and secured the match win for A&T, with Bury second ahead of Stockport.

In the Division 1 table, A&T lead Stockport by two match points and increased their race points lead to 13. Jake Read increased his lead in the Grand Prix series to 15 points, after his nearest challenger, Reece Pollitt, suffered a fall and a last place on the night.
