Many congratulations to A&T's Emily Burgess on winning the prestigious Women's Welsh Open Individual Championship for the second successive year! All of the UK's top women racers were in action at Newport on Saturday. In a 24 riders field, Emily scored 15 points from her 4 qualifying heats, losing only to Exeter's Lauren Hookway first time out. This saw her qualify for the semi-finals, which she won from grid 1. In the final, Emily againdrew grid 1, held off a strong challenge from Poole's Macie Schmidt on the first lap, and pulled away for a convincing win. Sheffield's Laura Watson was third and Lauren Hookway fourth. A&T's Chloe Warn scored a creditable 8 points in the qualifying heats. |
