Tue 9th April | A & T Go-Ride GP Round 1 | Astley & Tyldesley | |
The Astley & Tyldesley Go-Ride League got off to a good start at a sunny, but cold evening at Gin Pit on Tuesday. Several riders were missing due to school holidays, but 15 new and young riders still turned out. Well done to the new officials who filled in the posts of team managers and flag marshal. The Australian format which was successfully introduced last year was retained, with the match consisting of three teams, with six riders per race, over a 12 heats formula. The riders lined up in their splendid new team tops, supplied by 3318 Designs and funded by Wigan Council's Brighter Borough Fund. A solid scoring Tyldesley Typhoons took the opening round win, with Aiden Green top scoring with 21 points. Tom Morrissey raced to a 24 points maximum for Astley Hurricanes, winning all his four races, with team mate Duncan Whalley losing only to Gin Pit Storm's top scorer, Charlie Burgess, in heat 8.
