Fri 26th July | 2019 ICSF World Cycle Speedway Championships | Swietochlowice | |
The 2019 ICSF World Cycle Speedway Championships got off to a great start at a hot and sunny Swietochlowice, in southern Poland, on Friday. There was a large crowd and a great atmosphere at the superbly shaped and sized track, although last month's resurfacing resulted in the track cutting up in places. In the opening match Gt Britain juniors raced to a 75-73 win over Poland. GB took a 6-4 in the opening race and never lost the lead. The visitors led 68-60 after heat 13, before Poland took heat wins in the last two races to reduce the deficit. Coventry's Cameron Gill raced unbeaten. Credit goes to the GB riders and managers, as the work put in at the GB Academy paid off. The Pawel Waloszek Memorial Trophy meeting followed, in memory of the Polish speedway legend and staunch club supporter, who died last year. Zoledowo's Pawel Cegielski entertained the crowd with some robust passes, and he took the win on 18 points. The other rostrum places were filled by A&T duo Kamil Bielica and Tomek Wlodarczyk, with Dawid Bas a faller in the run-off, after they all scored 17 points. Steve Harris finished with 8 points. |
