Mon 26th August British Individual
Championships
Gt. Blakenham

Congratulations to Emily Burgess on her second podium finish of the British Individual Finals weekend. Racing in the open age Women's Final, on a blisteringly hot Monday at Gt. Blakenham, Emily won three of her five races, to finish in 3rd place on 17 points. Poole's Macie Schmidt retained her title, with Leicester's Lizzie Rigley in 2nd place.

Since her 7th place finish in her first major final (2018 European Women's Final at Poczesna, Poland), Emily has finished on the rostrum in all subsequent seven major finals (3 wins, 2 runners-up, 2 thirds). An amazing achievement at international and national levels for a 15 year old!

Reece Pollitt raced in his second successive British Open Individual Final. An improved performance saw Reece finish on 10 points, which included a debatable exclusion in heat 9, when defending 2nd place against home rider Lewis Osborne. In a breathtaking run-off for the title, Birmingham's Paul Heard took his first Open title, ahead of defending champion Josh Brooke and World Champion Ben Mould.

Well done to the Astley & Tyldesley riders who have represented the club with distinction this weekend. We have had two winners, one runner-up and two third places - terrific performances against Britain's best cycle speedway riders.
