Tue 1st June A&T Go-Ride Grand Prix Round 1 Astley & Tyldesley

Astley & Tyldesley staged Round 1 of the A&T Go-Ride Grand Prix series at Gin Pit on Tuesday evening. With nine riders, all from A&T, participating, the riders were split into two groups - Novices and Youths. The early heats consisted of scratch races, with handicapping introduced for the later heats, in both groups.

6 years old Alexander Lawless won the first two scratch races and picked up enough points later on, riding off the biggest handicap, to take the overall win in the Novice category. 4 years old Lillie Field made the most of a generous handicap to win the last two races and move up into 2nd place overall.

A&T Go-Ride Grand Prix Round 1 - Novice results:

Alexander Lawless 15, Lillie Field 13, Jasmine Lawless 11, Dylan Field 11.

Charlie Burgess won his opening four races in the Youth event, before taking 3rd place out of 5 races in the final handicap race, to clinch the overall win. Duncan Whalley rode steadily throughout to finish overall runner-up.

12 riders, including 8 new riders, turned out for the Half Term Holiday Taster Session on Thursday afternoon, with 9 riders participating in the competitive races later on. Coach Mike Hack and Recruitment Officer, Corrie Burgess, split the riders into three groups, and a series of entertaining races, enjoyed by all present, took place. A&T riders Oscar Belt, Alexander Lawless and Dylan Field won the three respective categories, with impressive performances from newcomers Dexter Mole, Hugo Wan and Harrison Lui.

As at the Go-Ride event on Tuesday, riders were presented with certificates, medals and Go-Ride momentoes. The awards were presented on Tuesday by A&T Coach, Catherine White, and on Thursday by World u-16 Girls Champion, Emily Burgess.
