British Individual Finals Weekend Round-up Saturday Duncan Whalley, Frank White and Caspar Ellis all came through the Pre-Qualifier to reach the u-14 Boys Final, at Wednesfield. Duncan rode superbly in the final, to score 18 points and finish in 3rd place, behind the new champion Ryker Jolly and Shaun Kell. Frank finished on 10 points and Caspar 9. In the Open Semi-final 1, also at Wednesfield, Reece Pollitt scored 11 points, to leave himself with plenty to do the following day to qualify for Monday's Final. Sunday Frank White won the u-12 Boys Championship, at East Park, with a 19 points score, losing only to Oliver Edmunds in heat 5. This was Frank's fifth British title win, having previously won the Little League Finals and Grand Prix series at u-8 and u-10 levels. Frank is eligible to defend the u-12 title next year! After dropping a point to Lee Galley first time out, Steve Harris reeled off four wins to total 19 in the o-50 Championship at Coventry. Norman Venson matched this score, so a run-off for the title was held. Steve led for two laps, from grid 2, before Norman pulled off an inside switch on the 3rd lap to pass Steve on the back straight and take the title. Reece Pollitt turned in a much improved performance in Open Semi-Final 4, at East Park, scoring 16 points. This made his aggregate score 27 points, necessitating a run-off with Chris Jewkes on the Monday morning, to determine the last qualifying place in the Final. Monday Reece Pollitt won the run-off to book his place in the Open Final, at Birmingham, appearing for the fourth consecutive staging. Steve Harris made light of giving up to 14 years away, with a great performance to score 17 points and take 3rd place in the o-40 Final. He pushed the eventual winner, Kev Burns, hard all the way in heat 17, but Burns held on to avoid having to run-off for the title. Emily Burgess turned in another dominant performance to retain her Women's title. She was pushed hard all the way by Lizzie Rigley, and the eventual outcome was decided in heat 14. Lizzie was first away from grid 1, with Emily chasing, from grid 4. On the last lap, Emily dived inside at the first bend and resisted her opponent's attempts to retain the lead, pulling clear on the back straight to take the race win. Emily secured a 20 points maximum and the title by winning her last race, with Rigley finishing runner-up on 19. Reece Pollitt encountered mixed fortunes in the Open Final, He won his third race, but suffered a gate exclusion next time out, eventually finishing on 9 points. Paul Heard won heat 20. to take his second British title win. A most successful weekend for A&T riders, with five rostrum places, including two winners, from the 169 entries across the Championships. |
