Astley & Tyldesley competed in the British Club Championships, at Birmingham, on Sunday. A&T fielded teams in two of the eight British Club Championship categories, with Oscar Belt and Josh Pilkington racing in both the u-12 and u-14 matches, on a hot, sunny morning, before the afternoon thunderstorms arrived. A&T, with Oscar Belt riding impressively, were well in contention to qualify for the u-14 Final, racing in close contention with Norfolk side, Hethersett. However, Josh Pilkington, still finding his fitness after a lengthy injury lay-off, incurred a gate exclusion in the penultimate race. Despite Hethersett conceding a 7-3 in the last race, they qualified for the final, pipping A&T by one point. Suffolk side, Kesgrave, were the winners of the u-14 Final. U-14 Semi-Final 1 result: Kesgrave 42 Horspath 30 Hethersett 23 Astley & Tyldesley 22 A&T scorers: Oscar Belt 16, Josh Pilkington 6 (1). The u-12 Championship was a straight final, with seven teams competing. A&T were more competitive in this category, and finished 5th in the final standings. Kesgrave again took the win. U-12 Final result: Kesgrave 39 Hull 34 Hethersett 32 Newport 28 Astley & Tyldesley 26 Coventry 24 Sheffield 20 A&T scorers: Oscar Belt 16, Josh Pilkington 10 (4). Kesgrave won the overall British Club Championship, ridden over the weekend, for the third successive year. |
