Sat 10th August British Youth & Junior League National Round 2 Bury

Astley & Tyldesley's riders put in an impressive display to take 2nd place in the 2nd National Round of the British Youth & Junior League series at Bury today. Defending champions and perennial junior title winners, Kesgrave, took the team victory.

Individually, Josh Pilkington raced to a brilliant 16 points maximum score in the u-12s match. However, he drew the unfavourable grid 4 in the Grand Prix 'A' Final, but pulled off a smart pass to take 3rd place. Roman Boaler of Horspath took the win. Nahom Tumizghy impressed with two second places behind Josh, in the qualifying heats. Charlotte Brighouse made her debut at this level and will benefit from the experience.

In the u-14s match, Frank White scored 13 points in the qualifiers, before drawing grid 4 in the GP Final, finishing 2nd behind Poole's Jamie Randall.

In the u-16s match, Duncan Whalley scored 10 points in the qualifiers. In a four rider run-off for the last two places in the GP 'A' Final, Duncan drew grid 4 and trailed in last. He then again drew grid 4 in the GP' B' Final, finishing 2nd. Ipswich's Shaun Kell took the win in the GP 'A' Final.

John White scored 13 points in the u-18 qualifiers, to progress to the GP 'A' Final. Yes, you've guessed it, John drew grid 4 and finished 3rd, as Poole's Oliver Saunders took the win.

Poole's Nataleigh Goulden scored a 16 points maximum and won the GP 'A' Final in the Girls match.

The probability of the leading A&T riders all drawing grid 4 in their five GP Finals or run-offs, was 1 in 1024. Their luck must change next time, particularly for Josh who also drew grid 4 in the 1st Round Final at Southampton!
