It was a tough day's racing in hot, sunny weather at Torun, Poland on Friday. A&T's John White rode magnificently, coming through four hard qualifying matches, to progress to Saturday's Open Individual Semi-final and Sunday's Junior Individual Final. John came through both the Open Individual Qualifying match and the Junior Pre Qualifier. He then scored 14 points in the Junior Semi Final and 15 in the Open Quarter Final, which included a great win over former World Champion Marcin Szymanski. Younger brother Frank came through the pre qualifier and scored 6 in his Junior Semi-final. He will benefit from the valuable experience of international racing abroad. Steve Harris is the only rider to have raced in every European Championship since its inception in the Netherlands in 1994. Unfortunately, Steve was eliminated from both the Open Quarter Final, after scoring 9 points, and from the Veterans Semi-final, after scoring 11 points. Saturday's racing is all at the Skierki track, starting at 10.00, with the two Open Individual Finals. This is followed by the four Nations Cup Finals, for Women, Veterans, Junior and Open teams. |
