Sun 6th April Astley & Tyldesley v Fife Astley & Tyldesley

Astley & Tyldesley opened their North & Scotland League Division 1 campaign with a comfortable 99-80 win over Fife at Gin Pit, on Sunday. On a warm, sunny afternoon, the track was well watered beforehand, but quickly dried out in the breezy conditions.

Fife's top pair of Jake Slight and Kayden Davidson sped away from the tapes in heat 1, but a slip by Davidson allowed the A&T pair of Paul Graham and Terry Norman to come through and share the points. A&T took a 6-4 and a 7-3 heat win in the next two races, to open up a lead they never lost. Fife took two heat wins during the match, a 5-4 win in heat 5, with race winner John White deducted a point for a tapes movement, and then a 6-4 heat win for the Davidson/Slight pairing over John White in heat 8. A&T displayed fine teamwork as they steadily extended their lead throughout the match, to run out 99-80 winners.

John White top scored for A&T, with solid support throughout the team. Special mention for Frank White, who scored a fine 16 points from 5 races, after winning the u-14 Open North West Youth League Closed Circuit race in the morning. Jake Slight and Kayden Davidson were in fine form for Fife, each winning three races. The fastest time of the day was 42.47 seconds, by Davidson in heat 8.

In the Match Race, the challenger, John White, went off the inside grid and pulled clear to defeat the holder, Kayden Davidson.
