It was a great day's racing at Gin Pit, as the country's best u-8 and u-10 cycle speedway riders converged at Gin Pit for the annual Little League Championships. First up were the u-8 Open and Girls Individuals, run concurrently. Sheffield's Lucas Mawhood won his first three races in the u-8 Open, before finishing second to Horspath's Reggie Fay in heat 12. This meant a run off for the title against Kesgrave's Arthur Tane, who had dropped his only point to Mawhood in heat 7. Tane gated first and held off several tyre scrubbing challenges from Mawhood to take the race win and the title. Kesgrave's Harry Garnham scored 14 to take third place overall. In the u-8 Girls match, the two unbeaten riders met in heat 10. Poole's Olivia Reeman took a superb win from grid 4, heading home Kesgrave's Tia Harrison, who finished second overall. Sienna Hammond, of Kesgrave, finished third overall on 14 points. The u-10 Open and Girls Individuals followed, again run concurrently. Kesgrave's Freddie Mower was in terrific form, scoring a 20 points maximum in the Open and recording the three fastest times. Freddie beat his nearest challenger, Poole's Izacc Laing, in heat 2, in the fastest time of the day, 35.47 seconds. That was Izacc's only defeat. Tom Parr of Kesgrave finished third on 18 points, in a keenly contested match. Just three riders made up the Girls match. Hethersett's Nyla El-labany raced unbeaten, to retain her title, finishing ahead of Horspath's Tabitha Evans on 12 and Hull's Alexis Woodcock on 8. Following a lunch break, racing resumed with the Team Championship. Kesgrave Panthers led after the first round of races and steadily pulled away to finish 12 points clear of runners up Poole. There was a close battle throughout for third place before Astley & Tyldesley clinched that spot, ahead of Horspath and Kesgrave Pumas. Kesgrave Panthers were totally dominant, in dropping only three points and having four riders unbeaten. Final Team score: Kesgrave Panthers 61 Poole 49 Astley & Tyldesley 34 Horspath 29 Kesgrave Pumas 27. The host club delivered the event in their usual slick and professional manner, ensuring that the day's racing and presentations were completed by 2.30, just before the forecast rain arrived.
