The Club broke new ground in cycle speedway circles by securing eight
official club sponsors, courtesy of Mark Keirl. Steady improvements
continued in many other off track club activities.
On the track, the 1st team improved for the sixth season running, fielding a
mix of senior and veteran riders in 27 of the 31 matches ridden. There was a
great team spirit and a real will to win throughout the team. A&T finished
2nd out of 7 teams in the Northern Alliance League, 2nd out of 5 teams in
the Midlands/ North League Division 1 Northern section, 3rd out of 8 teams
in the Northern Fours League, but bottom out of 3 teams in the Manchester
League Division 1.
However, there was a low presence in junior competitions. A&T finished 2nd
out of 5 teams in the Midlands/ North Combination Division Northern section,
but this was largely driven by eligible experienced riders rather than
genuine juniors. Other finishes were 10th out of 11 teams in the Midlands/
North section of the British Youth & Junior League, 4th out of 8 teams in
the Northern Junior League and bottom out of 3 teams in the Manchester
League Division 2.
A&T finished joint 8th out of 16 entrants in the new British Club
Championship. Darek Kurkowski was the club’s top scorer, 379, whilst Tomasz
Wlodarczyk had the highest race average, on 3.74.
