A&T Duo Triumphant at Bury.

Astley & Tyldesley Miners' Welfare / CTA Direct had four riders competing in the Ken Graham Memorial Trophy meeting at Bury on Saturday. 38 qualifying races were held to eliminate 7 riders, with all four A & T riders reaching the quarter final stages. Przemek Binkowski recovered well from a first race exclusion. Both Frank and Chris Finnigan were eliminated at the quarter final stage, but defending champion Przemek Binkowski and Tomek Wlodarczyk both made it to the semi finals. Binkowski took 2nd place in his semi final to qualify for the final, whilst Wlodarczyk won his semi final at the 7th attempt! Each time the A & T man was leading when the race was stopped, having made terrific starts every time from the less favourable grid 3.

In the final, Wlodarczyk made a great start from grid 2 to close down Wednesfield's World No. 2 Lee Aris and take the lead, whilst Binkowski powered round from grid 4 to take 2nd place. Wlodarczyk controlled the race throughout to win the prestigious event, with Binkowski holding off the strong challenges of Aris and Heckmondwike's Darren Kent to take 2nd place. This was a terrific performance by Astley & Tyldesley's top duo of Tomasz Wlodarczyk and Przemek Binkowski in taking the top two places in a major open individual championship.
