A&T's 20th Annual Presentation & Social Evening

Astley & Tyldesley held the 20th Annual Presentation & Social Evening in the main function room at the Astley & Tyldesley Miners' Welfare Club. Heavy snowfall and sickness reduced the numbers to around 50 attendees, who enjoyed the evening. Entertainment consisted of music set up by Lee Phillips and viewing of Alan Hewitson's excellent DVD of the 2010 British Finals on large screen set up by Will Evans, as an opener, before patrons enjoyed an excellent buffet prepared by June and Angela Phillips, with assistance from Lorna Thompson.

The presentations followed, with 27 rider awards made to the Astley & Tyldesley riders present on the night. In addition to the trophies already decided on the track, the following trophies were awarded on the night: J. Fisher & Sons Young Rider of the Year - Max Evans; Rory Blackwell Cup for Best Newcomer - Reece Pollitt; North West Trophies Cup for Best Novice - Sacha Street; Most Improved Rider - Stefan Whitelegg.

A & T have steadily increased their pool of volunteers over the years and this year saw 17 regular volunteers each receive a present in grateful recognition of their efforts on the club's behalf during 2010. The Ron Hack Memorial Cup for Volunteer of the Year was jointly awarded to the husband and wife pair of Lee and Angela Phillips, for their sterling efforts throughout the year which included kitting out the interiors of the club's three new cabins and their excellent promotional work at the British Individual Finals.

Awards were then made to the club's three sponsors in 2010: Paul Whitelegg of Hypnotherapy4you, who sponsored the rider awards for the evening; Laura Priestley who accepted the award on behalf of Tayban Developments; unfortunately Jimmy Fisher of J. Fisher & Sons was not present on the night to receive his award. Thanks to the generosity of many club members, 14 raffle prizes were donated and these were all gratefully accepted when winning tickets were drawn. The evening concluded with more music and large screen footage, before members braved the snow to make their way back home.

All in all, it was an excellent way to round off the 2010 Astley & Tyldesley Cycle Speedway Club's season.
