Plagued by injuries and absences, it was a depleted Astley & Tyldesley squad which made the long journey to the North East to take on the Northumbria Vikings in Sunday's Northern League fixture. The hosts were at full strength in the Division 1 match and ran out convincing 103-75 winners, against a team of veterans and juniors. Veteran Paul Graham impressed for A&T with a fighting 18 points, with a great showing from youngster Ciaran Collins. Ciaran scored 17 points and was denied victory in a controversial heat 17. The rest of the side battled gamely throughout. Gavin Parr raced unbeaten for a solid scoring home side. Northern League Division 1 match result: Northumbria Vikings 103 Astley & Tyldesley 75 Northumbria: Gavin Parr 18 (2), Jason Keith 16 (2), Michael Parr 14 (1), Terry Kirkup 14, Shane Gray 13 (2), Dan Redshaw 13, Keith Oldham 10, Andy Knowles 6 (2). A&T: Paul Graham 18, Ciaran Collins 17, Max Evans 12 (1), Matt Snell 7 (2), Lee Phillips 6, Ron Makin 6, Will Evans 5, John White 4. Referee - Neil Magee. A&T maintained their 100% record in Division 2 with a 78-70 win. Ciaran Collins suffered a gate exclusion in heat 1 and it wasn't until heat 4 that A&T took the lead. This was never surrendered thereon, as a solid scoring A&T took a vital win. Max Evans lost only to Dan Redshaw last time out, whilst Collins was unbeaten apart from his exclusion. A&T: Max Evans 17 (2), Ciaran Collins 15 (1), Will Evans 13 (1), Lee Phillips 13, Matt Snell 10, Ron Makin 9, John White 1. Referee - Terry Kirkup. A&T suffered their first defeat of the season in the Division 3 match. Once again, A&T were at a numerical disadvantage, but this time the three riders couldn't pull off a win against the five of Northumbria. Matt Snell and John White both lost only to the home side's best rider, Lee Redshaw. Northern League Division 3 match result: Northumbria Vikings 45 Astley & Tyldesley 34 Northumbria: Lee Redshaw 12, Bradley Stansfield 11, Samantha Crane 8, Sam Stansfield 8, Bailey Bowman 6.
